Chapter- 5 | That’s a strange name
A short fiction
“What are you doing here?” I tried to ask politely but it came out rather annoyed and blunt.
“Whoa! sorry to bother you miss. I thought you’d be happy to see me.” he said,
“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to, it’s just that I never talk to anyone here.” I answered,
He had a shocking and puzzled face, he asked me if I was joking but apparently it was the truth.
The bell rang in the middle of our conversation and I ran away feeling embarrassed.
“I’ll catch you later.” he shouted and I simply waved at him.
The whole time I was in my class I kept thinking why he showed up here,
I am not used to speaking with anyone but teachers here and so I felt strange,
What if someone saw me talking to him and would try to spread rumors about me again.
I have been bullied like that before and I don’t think I can take that anymore.
I remember back when I was in high school, I lost two of my good friends because of such rumors.
And then, I never saw them after. We promised to go to college together but now I have no idea where they are.
I still think of it as my fault because I tried to stand up to the so called popular group.
If only I had let them do whatever they pleased, I would have been together with my friends today.
That’s main reason I don’t talk to anyone around here, my past haunts me that bad.
I don’t want to be in that mess again. It’s good to be away from people. it feels safe.
But still I wanted to be friends with him for a change, there was something about him that felt different.
After the lecture ended I went outside looking for him,
I was afraid that he would be mad a me for treating him like that so I thought of apologizing,
But I didn’t find him anywhere. Where would have he gone and will I see him again were the only thoughts in my head.
I waited till all the lectures were finished and it was time to go home. But there wasn’t any sign of him.
So, I decided to walk back home, clueless of what happened today.
On my way I heard someone calling me and this time I knew it was him, so I stopped.
“Gosh Price, why do I always have to catch you like this. I told you we’d meet later why didn’t you wait.” he sounded a bit annoyed,
“I thought you left, sorry.” I said as calmly as I could but there was something bothering me and I couldn’t help but ask him,
“And since when do you know my last name?”
He just lifted his shoulders and smiled.
“Well then you can at least tell me what’s your name?”
“It’s Joe Berry” he said,
That’s a strange name I thought, but I didn’t say anything.
