Everything you want to know before visiting “The statue of Unity”
The statue of Unity,
The tallest statue in the world, 182 m in height,
located near Sardar Sarovar Dam, Kevadia, Gujarat 393155,
Well, you can find that all over the internet but while actually visiting what are things that you must know?
I’m here to tell you all about it,
So just tie your seat belts and we’re ready to take off,
This is the part, where I share with you my story of when I visited “The Statue of Unity”.
13 things about ‘The Statue of Unity’
1. Means of Travel (by bus or by train)
There are around 4 trains to Kevadia town (where the statue is located) and then there are buses.
You can easily find a bus from railway station or you can also hire private vehicles.
If you are a resident of Gujarat then I would advice you to take the bus,
This way you will reach directly to the statue entrance gate.
It takes a lot of time to reach there by bus or by train so prepare for your journey, keeping that in mind.
2. Ticket Costs (entry tickets as well as other benefits)
The ticket fares are different for children (3-15 years) and adults,
You only have to buy one ticket (per person) and then you will be able to see everything inside and visit around the statue.
The basic entry ticket costs Rs. 150 for adults and Rs. 90 for children
Then there is Viewing gallery ticket which costs Rs. 380 for adults and Rs. 230 for children.
This includes the benefits of basic entry ticket plus you get the access to the viewing gallery at 153 meters.
Also a landscape view of Sardar sarovar dam and the beautiful mountain ranges of Vindhya and Saputara.
Next is the Express entry ticket which is about Rs. 1030 for adults as well as children.
This will include all the benefits of the viewing gallery ticket with ‘no wait time’ to access the gallery.
On heavy crowd days the wait could be much longer and thus this ticket prevents that.
The last one is Foreigner Express entry ticket this is only for the non-indian guests,
The ticket fares are Rs. 1530 for adults and Rs. 830 for children.
And this includes all the benefits of express entry ticket.
3. Facilities (Your visit will be smooth as butter)
From luggage to roaming there are all the facilities one needs,
The service staff is kind and helpful,
There are facilities to store your luggage in safe lockers
The washrooms are constantly cleaned and maintained,
There are drinking water facilities all around the area,
To visit other floors, there are escalators going up as well as down,
Also, passenger conveyors (travellators) are available at ground floor to minimize the walking,
Free WiFi is available for all the visitors/ ticket holders,
Which offers 34 MB data and more purchasable on demand
The area on the sides is decorated with flowers and is secure from the sun,
Hence, you will not have to worry about the heat.
Also, there are tour buses that take you to the nearest places of attraction and amusement.
4. Visitors (What type of crowd you will find)
There are lots and lots of people visiting the monument daily,
You will find school kids on their picnics,
Foreigners, visiting from various places,
Families or group of friends,
A lot of Indian crowd visits the statue, so you will find a variety of people from all the religions,
Language will not be a barrier up to some extent,
English will be known to most of the crowd as well as the security so any information would be easy to avail.
5. Timings (Try visiting early in the morning)
Entry to the statue is open from 8 am to 6 pm.
Visiting early would be beneficial as you will be able to cover much region,
And also there will be a little time left to relax and enjoy,
The latest advisable time to visit is 3 pm,
By then you will be able to see the statue, and the surrounding attraction spots,
Like, the Sardar sarovar dam, the valley of flowers, dino trial etc,
And you will be able to come back in the time of laser show at 7 pm.
Pleas take note, apart from the timings the visiting days are from Tuesday to Sundays only, it is closed on Mondays.
6. Accommodations (Enjoy your stay)
There are various hotels, starting from 3 stars, available nearby for accommodation,
You will find luxury as well as budget hotels for your stay,
There will not be a problem if you pick a farther hotel,
You will find many vehicles available to drive you to your destination.
But for your convenience try choosing a nearby hotel.
The city looks beautiful at night, the roads will be glowing with lights and it will be pleasant to be out at night.
7. Online Bookings (Prefer booking online for convenience)
Now, the offline bookings are not too tedious,
But you might get stuck in lines if it is crowded that day,
So, try booking online from the official website of the statue of unity.
Many a times the visiting gallery slots get booked completely,
Due to which you will miss the benefits of the same, and thus online booking is more beneficial.
Keep a soft copy as well as a hard copy of your ticket if you are booking online.
8. The Monument (The story of the tallest statue in the world)
A bronze statue of India’s first home minister who is known for uniting 562 princely states in pre-independent India to build the Republic of India “Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel”.
On his 143rd birth anniversary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the Statue of Unity.
It is designed by Padma Bhushan recipient sculptor Ram V Sutar, construction of the statue began on 31 October 2014.
It is 182 meters high, and is the tallest statue in the world.
The height of the base of Statue of Unity is 58 metres.
The statue faces the Narmada Dam and is located on a river island called Sadhu Bet near Rajpipla on Narmada River,
The statue is built within three-and-a-half years, by over 3,000 workers, including 300 engineers from Larsen & Toubro (L&T),
Four high-speed lifts are fitted in the statue’s legs. Each lift can carry 26 people to the top in just above 30 seconds.
A museum, a 3-star lodging facility, a food court, a memorial garden and a grand museum are part of the Statue of Unity.

9. Travel Facility (Tour buses available without fares)
As you buy the entry tickets the bus charges are counted in,
You don’t have to pay extra money for visiting nearby places like Sardar Sarovar dam, Valley of flowers etc,
The buses are air conditioned and readily available,
There is a bus for each and every route ,
They are spacious and comfortable.
You can easily spend your whole day around within minimum cost,
Also, you can make as many trips as you want.
10. Food Court (don’t carry food)
Food items are not allowed inside the monument,
There are various options available at the Food court, also a few other fast food options,
I suggest you to have a good meal before visiting,
The Food court include Domino’s and a few different options,
You can have a proper lunch here too,
11. Sardar Sarovar Dam (Nearby Attraction)
It is a well know dam, supplying water and electricity to four Indian states.
The active capacity of the dam is 5.8 km3 (4,700,000 acre⋅ft)
12. Valley of Flowers (Don’t miss this)
Beautifully built and decorated ‘the valley of flowers’ is an amusing place to visit,
It is vast and peaceful,
Food options are also available at the entrance,
There is so much to see inside,
You can easily spend an hour or two there,
It also includes a butterfly garden.
13. Helicopter and boat rides
There is a 10 minute helicopter ride,
Which gives you an aerial view of the statue of unity,
The tickets are Rs. 2900 per person, with the copter carrying 5 to 7 people at a time,
The rides are available from 9:30 onward and closes before sunset, (except Mondays)
There is a boat ride also available in the Narmada river for Rs. 290 per person.
